Allo I tell you what it is that's putting everybody off, it's that bloody input stage biasing arrangement... The other thing is that people who know enough to build it have probably read a bunch of stuff here and there, and therefore been anointed in...
Do you know the part number of the Johnson tube sockets for the 6C33. There are two sockets available numbered 247 for $35 or 248 for $30, is there a difference. Do you know.
Paul, I am sorry I do not remember. I th...
So, my thought was that below 35 hz, there are many ways of thinking about amplification. Some might say SS amplification is helpful due to power demands of horn loaded 18" woofers. To use 6C33 might be a trade off but I do not k...

Romy, I'm enjoying this account of Melquiades upbringing. I must ask though: how are you sure that what you are hearing isn't on the recording? Not that I don't believe you, I just wonder if the stuff has been there all along and undis...

Morning,I'm not disputing what you heard, but your conclusion that the LF must modulate the tweeter section can't possibly be right. 0.047uF is a -3db rolloff of 34Hz. If you're saying that over 0.68uF was fine, then by implication 0.47uF is not as g...

With this tube I would think cathode emission limits lifetime. Stepping back a moment, I'm guessing this tube is designed for radar operation. Maybe in an aircraft. The spec sheet definately talks only about pulse mode of opera...
Why do you think I bout a 1000 of them and closed to the rest of my life my interest in driver tubes?Still, the 6E5P should not be measured as a driver but heard as a driver – the beauty in this tube is in its sound.I do no...

Hello every body, I live in France and I'm new on this forum.I'm thinking to build (some months) a mono big Single Ended amplifier (200-300 watts) made with triodes (IDHT or DHT doesn't matter for me) for outdoor professional audio.Have you got an on...

Dear Romy, thank you so very much for mentioning our amplifier to your excellent forum. Indeed, during the last 5-6 years there are a lot of manufacturers “from non traditional hi-fi manufacturing countries”. In particular, in poor old Greece we ...

Hi Romy,Am I misunderstanding something about the 6C33C?I had a look at the operating point you recommend for this valve in your 'full range' Melquiades amplifier. The way you are using it seems to give almost 20% THD.Does this sound good or is it ju...

HelloDo you mean 78% nickel? As it's Dave's iron, I'll even *pay* to take it off your hands :-)Re 10Y: Well, it's one of the most linear tubes ever; and this has been backed up in some brief listening experiences to some of its variants. A friend act...

You might write a venous attack on Vitavox but it would be about 12 years too late! You could try to make fun of SME but what would be the point? They are another company who, like them or not, make honest products for ordinary people who want to pla...
I really do not understand what conclusion you make by shutting the tube down.
I make no conclusion. It's just an interesting thing to watch. A good experiment. I was hoping it would be a clue for everyone here.Since t...

Hi,
Fairly sure it was a typo, but the bigger the airgap, the *lower* the inductance, all else being equal. We need a large airgrap for a 6C33 due to the high current. The advantage is that the airgap linearises the BH characteristic o...

Interesting….. It is interesting to think about the relational of Melquiades slow take-up. I think that major contributing factor is that guy who calls himself Romy the Cat. Really, I think it’s it. The people who are capable to build amplifiers more...

It hard at this point to sat anything defiantly about the Super Melquiades sound. Positively to derive the speakers directly from amp with no speaker-level crossover does provide multiple and multiple benefits. So, Even if to subtract all other “diff...

I am not too tailed or interested with what this Troels Gravesen does but his use of off the shelf Lundahl with two 6C33C anodes is kind of fun to watch.

Romy,I have several power amplifiers each of which sounds different. I might enjoy some aspects of what one of them does but feel that it could do other things better. Another of the amplifiers might have different strengths and weaknesses. None of t...

Ok, here's some calibrated sweeps. I ran the tetrodes in triode mode, with G2 strapped to plate through a 100 ohm resistor. First up is the western 6e6p.I then built an adapter card th...

The references to inertia and lightness are not to do with how a DHT works electrically but to do with how sounds reproduced by them 'can' be ie without smearing or overhang. Its a characteristic I hear in live unamplified music and one that is endea...
I have not drawn any conclusions about how this amplifier might sound. I cannot imagine how the input stage you use will behave and how that will impact on what the 6C33 does. As I've said previously the Lamm amplifiers us...

Romy,
I have a TV2 too, please can you tell me wich is the configuration/settings to test the 6C33?.
Almost I want to test filaments if it´s too much amp for the tester.
Thanks

Okay... I also downloaded the original Milq SET amplifier PDF and have looked at it in detail as well as the 6-channel adaptation (DSET) and I understand where you're going with it... or so I think. In my particular situation, I've owned two pair of ...

Anthony,
I feel that 18AWG is a bit too
weak for the filaments. I usually use 12. I do not know if you allow to have
any ventilation around the 6C33C, I did. In my full range amp, I had holes around
the 6C33 panel.
